Ramstein Air Base in Germany's Rhineland-Palatinate region is the largest U.S. Air Force base in Europe and the primary hub for Space-A travel on the continent. Nearly every transatlantic Space-A flight lands here, making it the gateway for onward travel to anywhere in Europe.

Terminal Information

The Ramstein Passenger Terminal is well-equipped compared to most AMC terminals. It features a waiting area with seating, vending machines, USO facilities, and a small exchange. The terminal staff handles both inbound and outbound Space-A travelers, and you can sign up for return flights immediately upon arrival.

Common Routes Through Ramstein

Ramstein connects to multiple CONUS terminals (Dover, McGuire, BWI, Charleston) and also serves as a hub for intra-theater European flights. You may find onward Space-A missions to Rota, Sigonella, Mildenhall, Incirlik, and destinations in the Middle East — though intra-European Space-A is less frequent and less predictable.

Getting to the Rest of Europe

Frankfurt International Airport (FRA) is about 90 minutes by car or train from Ramstein. From Frankfurt, you can reach virtually any European destination via Lufthansa, budget carriers, or the Deutsche Bahn rail network. The Kaiserslautern train station is the nearest rail hub to Ramstein, about 15 minutes from base.

Ramstein has extensive on-base lodging through the Ramstein Inn, plus nearby hotels in Kaiserslautern and Landstuhl. The on-base lodging is often full, especially in summer, so book ahead or have off-base alternatives ready.
